Location: Buu Son Pagoda also called Dat Set (Clay) Pagoda is located at 286 Ton Duc Thang St., Soc Trang City, Soc Trang Province, almost 2km from centre of Soc Trang City.
Characteristics: The pagoda is famous for thousands of clay statues and 8 big candles.
(TITC) – The pagoda’s roof is propped up by 24 pillars, each pillar is decorated with winding dragon shape made from clay.
Currently, the pagoda preserves nearly 2,000 clay statues, typically Amida Buddha, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, Shakyamuni Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu, etc. and many valuable clay artifacts, especially the two towers of Da Bao and Bao Toa. Da Bao Tower has 13 floors with the height of 4.5m, including 156 dragons and 208 doors, each door houses a Buddha statue. Bao Toa Tower is 2m high with 1,000 petal lotus throne at the top, each petal houses a Buddha statue.
In addition, the pagodas also has 3 large incense sticks, 1.5m high and 50kg weigh each; a six-dragon lamp; 8 big candles, 6 of which are intact with 200kg weight and 2.6m height each, estimated to be able to fire continuously for 70 years, the 2 remaining candles, each weighs about 100kg, lit since the 15th day of the seventh lunar month of 1970.
